You can thank The Gardner News for these photos. They send me out to the games. I shoot hundreds of photos at the game then I pick out a handful for the Gardner News to use for the print edition of the paper. I've become a fan along the way and enjoy showing the photos here. It also gives me a chance to show off my web skills too - I shot these photos - sorted, processed & organized them - wrote this blog article - made a custom full screen slideshow and created a section in my photostore for ordering prints - all in 24 hours. I can do these types of things for you too.
GEHS - First Trip to State in 2009
Be Proud Trailblazers! You have made history! The first Gardner football team to ever go to the State Championship! You better believe this town is proud of you!
Recap
The Trailblazers looked good in the first half and put the Hutchinson SaltHawks in a place they probably hadn''t been in all year... maybe in several years - trailing. Remember, you Trailblazers had a lead for a little while in this title game, against a team that is rarely behind.
Hutchinson scored on the first drive and the Trailblazers answered on their opening drive with a 29 yard TD pass to Justice Berry to tie it up at 7.
The Gardner defense forced a 3 and out on the next Hutchinson drive and the the Trailblazers took the lead when Bubba Starling hit Brett Jensen for a 32 yard TD pass, to take the lead 14-7. Hutchinson scored quickly on the next possession, but missed the extra point, so Garner held on to a 14-13 lead.
The Trailblazers next drive fizzled and they punted. The punt was muffed by senior running back Deveon Dinwiddie and Gardner recovered at midfield. The Blazers moved to the 16 yard line and were threatening to score again when Bubba was intercepted by # 7 James Joyce. The Salthawks offense then scored again and made the two point conversion, to go ahead 21-14.
On theit next possession, again the Trailblazers drove deep into Hutchinson territory, to the 8 yard line, but did not score. The drive ended on a 4th down sack of Starling.
The first half ended with the score 21-14. The 3rd quarter was a disaster for GEHS. Several costly errors gave Hutchinson prime field position and opportunities for easy scores. They scored two TD's and a field goal in rapid succession and ballooned their lead.
Hutchinson won their 6th straight State Title by defeating GEHS 52-14.
Remember This
Four years ago GEHS was 2-7.
Last year we challenged Aquinas but fell short.
In 2009, GEHS beat Aquinas twice and went to the title game, but fell short there.
Next year is coming. GEHS - get ready - take another step in 2010-11 season.
