The reception was at Abe & Jakes Landing, which overlooks the Kansas River, in Lawrence, Kansas. It's a really neat place for a reception (or any party or meeting). I really like the big arch thingies in the room - not sure what they're there for but they make an interesting background element in photos. It's big, open and airy room with a spacious dance floor, a stage and video projection. This building was remodeled over a period of ten years and is on the state historical record.
All the cruise party got to get together again to discuss all the fun we had on the wedding cruise... and all the friends and family that didn't go on the cruise got to see slideshows of photos from the cruise, as well as the entire 17 minute wedding ceremony on video.
As guests were still arriving, we started a specially made 10 minute countdown video, that let them know they had 'x' amount of time to get drinks and find their seats for the world premiere of the wedding ceremony video!
After that, we had the usual reception merriment - food, cake, dancing and the company of friends.
Jamie's brother Jake caught the garter, therefore, that means he must be next....right Jake?
Bahamas Beach Ceremony Video - 17 minutes
This is not really a normal IMPG wedding video. In this particular case, video wasn't in the contract - I was along to do PHOTOGRAPHY only.... but I just couldn't stand the thought of not having this ceremony on video! I had to do something... So we put together what we could with what gear we had available on site.
The Groom's father had his old Hi-8 video camera along and he shot the processional. The main part of the ceremony was shot in HD on a SAMSUNG TL225 consumer camera. During the processional, you can see this wafer thin camera sitting on a table top, mounted on a Joby Gorillapod. I was surprised at how great the footage from that teeny little camera looks! Actually amazed - that such a small camera could produce such beautiful footage! It did well there on the beach, in the bright daylight - but not so well in other situations, especially low light indoors. And the onboard audio just dropped out completely on longer clips. It was there for the first 6 or 7 minutes and then just disappeared completly and for the remaining duration of the clip... it never came back. It was pretty bad audio on the windy beach anyway... that's why I had miked the groom with a lav connnected to an iRiver iFP-790 for an independent audio source... or I would have had no audio for much of the video. The main thing was we got the ceremony documented nicely on video. I'm pretty happy with what we got, considering it was very much a 'use whats available, spur of the moment' project. Usually, those don't turn out very well!
Congrats again to Jamie & Shane - we love you guys!
